Find the company

Searches the Companies Registration Office register. Your search goes to our server and on to the CRO; it is not stored.

What this means

“Normal” is the only status that means a company is live. Anything else — strike-off listed, in liquidation, dissolved — is a reason to stop and ask questions before money changes hands.

A young company is not a bad company, but it has no filing history. Weigh it with the rest of the evidence: insurance, references and payment terms.

Important assumptions

Every figure on this page rests on these. Where one does not match your situation, the answer moves — sometimes a great deal.

  • Data is the CRO’s daily open data snapshot, so a change made today may not show until tomorrow.
  • Sole traders and partnerships are not companies and will not appear; they may hold a registered business name instead.
  • Directors, filings and financial statements are on CORE, the CRO’s own search, linked from the result.

Common questions

Does a company on the register mean it is trustworthy?

No. It means it legally exists. Quality of work, honesty and solvency are separate questions — use the hiring checklist for those.

What does “strike-off listed” mean?

The CRO intends to remove the company, usually because it has not filed its annual return. It may be fixed quickly, or the company may cease to exist.
